Violeta Palčinskaitė was born in 1943 in Kaunas. She is a poet, playwright, translator, and author of three screenplays. Her first poetry collection Žemė kėlė žolę (The Ground Lifted the Grass) was published in 1961, when the author was a first year at Vilnius University. Since then, Palčinskaitė has published about 30 books of various genres. The author devotes most of her works to children’s and youth literature. Her two recently published autobiographical memoirs with poems from various collections, Atminties babilonai (Babylons of Memory) and Paslapties babilonai (Babylons of Secret), have aroused a great deal of interest among readers. Violeta Palčinskaitė resides and creates in Vilnius, but she admits that traveling greatly enriches her creative imagination.
